A Child-Like Wonder

Tuesday April 4, 2006
UFO Those in this world who just don't believe in the possibility of UFOs or life on other planets may have missed something very important when they were young; a child-like wonder. That's right; who we are, and what we are willing to accept as possibilities goes back to our childhood. If you were raised in an atmosphere of straight line thinking of only accepting what you can actually see as being real, then you have missed out on the freedom of dreaming of "what if?" Yes, there is a whole universe to be explored, and lots of possibilities to dream about, like UFOs and other intelligence somewhere in the vastness of space.

Space and Time by Michael Patrick Nelson is a somewhat bizarre look at his own upbringing and what he was exposed to as he evolved into what he is today. Being a free thinker and a child of the 1960s, he found his world full of possibilities, some of them not so good. He was a follower of the insane ramblings of Dr. Timothy Leary, and often listened to Art Bell, one advocating the opening of the mind through drugs, and the other through imagination. He often found himself, along with a druggie friend of his, up on the roof of his house, looking at the stars. He was considering possibilities, and that is exactly what we do in ufology. We cannot prove that all of our photographic and video evidence shows extraterrestrial vehicles, but we can do one very important thing; consider the possibility of "what if?" with a child-like wonder.

I grew up allowing to believe in the paranormal, but I was more interested in Ghosts. But in the past year or two I have been dreaming of UFO’s, and aliens coming to me and wanting me to go with them. But I’ve never seen anything at all. A friend of mine has had several experiences with them,he was told he was crazy and put on meds. I figure that if we have our own minds we should be able to think for ourselves. I think that children should be able to have their own thoughts, they should never be brain washed in thinking that we are the only ones in this universe, because what if one day they see something and can’t explain it, then they become afraid or (in some cases) depressed and distant from people they love. What will we do then? I think that being raised to have an open mind is the best way to go.

I used to have a great imagination as a child, but I think there comes a time in most people’s lives where they put these childish fantasies away and get on with the reality’s of life.

Scott, I think you need to ask yourself “What is reality?”. This is an age old queston which philosophers have questioned and have been writing about for centuries. Scientific discoveries in the 20th and 21st centuries are just leading us to question what “reality” means, and to ponder that perhaps “reality” can be very subjective and individualized at times, if not all the time.
I was raised not to believe in ghosts or UFO’s, but my personal experiences in these area always left me free to continue to seek the knowledge I needed. My curiosity in these areas will remain until the day I die.
Do you know about Quantum Physics? Have you seen the Matrix? Wouldn’t you admit that these theories at least make you think more deeply about the subject of “reality”? Unless you were a scientist, studying the area of Quantum Physics, you can not just kind of negate what the scientists are saying. Perhaps you’ve given up your childhood wonder, but as an adult, I hope you are keeping an open mind and at least thinking about these things. The inner child in you needs to be released! :-)
