Leaving the Comfort Zone

Monday May 15, 2006
I receive many reports of UFO sightings, along with photos and video. I often wonder for as many reports as I get, how many sightings go unreported. I would guess there are many. That asks the question, "Why?" There are many reasons I am sure. Probably many folks just don't feel like reporting: some don't know how or where to report. But the main reason is ridicule. The old stigma is still very active. If you see a UFO, you're a nut! Just think about it. Let's say tonight, you see a glowing object in your neighborhood, so you run and tell your spouse, and kids, "Hey, come look at this." So all of you see it, and you know it is not an airplane, helicopter, or any other known object. So you have a legitimate UFO sighting. Do you call your local police or sheriff's office? Sure you do! "Hello, this is John Smith calling, 123 Main Street, I have just seen a UFO hovering in my neighborhood. At the same time, you are hoping nobody down there knows you. And the next day at school, your children will tell their friends and teachers. And naturally, you and your spouse will relate your experience to everyone at work. This will certainly make your kids more friends at school, and give you more leverage when that next promotion comes up. Do you believe that?

Seeing is believing-tripping the lights fantastic relates to us a story about a group of people who would follow the scenario I laid out above. What does it take to have the fortitude and dedication to set yourself up for being made a fool of? Well, something most of us don't have. But a group of Australian sky watchers is the exception. UFO Society of Western Sydney members make a regular stand looking for UFOs on Long Reef Peninsula. Since its formation in 2000, the group has received "hundred of sightings" according to the article. This group has seen unknown craft going into the water, as well as traversing the night skies. One of the members, after seeing orange colored UFOs, admits to "missing time" or a possible abduction. The group says that to be able to do what they do means leaving the "comfort zone." Can you? Or are you worried that the next time you call the police station, they may not come at all.
