Aykroyd & MIB

Tuesday May 16, 2006
It is quite amazing to me the weight that being a celebrity carries. Just because you are an actor, some people think that you can sing. And if you are a singer, you can be an actor. But, just because you are an actor, doesn't mean that you are an expert on UFOs. Case and point: Dan Aykroyd. Now, I am not being critical of Mr. Aykroyd. I have watched and enjoyed a number of his movies, and television appearances, and he may have quite an interest in UFOs, and other paranormal subjects. I really don't know. But, the problem is, just because a well known person lends their name to a project, does that automatically mean it will sell, be popular, and therefore, and most importantly, profitable? Well, I guess we will just have to see, won't we?

Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs just won't make it, according to critic R. J. Carter. We are told that the same old cases like Roswell and the Phoenix Lights are used to make one believe in UFOs. Carter does, however, relate one quite fascinating experience that Aykroyd had during a break in filming a segment for the series, Out There. It seems that Aykroyd had stepped outside, and was taking a telephone call, when suddenly he was approached by the Men in Black, the real Men in Black. The infamous pair looked at him, and he turned away. Soon, he turned back around to have another look, and poof, they were gone in their long black car. Two hours later, the crew was told that the series was canceled. Now, this is quite a remarkable story, assuming it is true. Or could it be just another way to sell DVDs? If R. J. Carter is right in his analysis of the DVD, you won't want to buy one anyway. Well, then again, Dan Aykroyd is a movie star.

There has never been a question of their being real MIB, except they
don’t always dress in black, and drive black cars. I have always felt, that man as a species, would be gravely egotistical to believe we are alone
in the Universe. I am 67, my only wish is that it becomes fact in my lifetime.

I don’t know if I would be so quick to judge. Has this reviewer actually seen this DVD? I would really like to know.

Considering that you write a UFO column I find it surprising that you don’t give David Sereda, the filmmaker, any credit for doing this project with Dan Aykroyd. He is one of the most fascinating UFO researchers and experiencers out there, and I believe he has a lot of integrity. From what I know, he and Dan became friends a few years ago and David was utterly blown away at the information Dan was sharing with him, and the idea for the film grew very organically out of those meetings, and before this DVD, Aykroyd provided a brief introduction to David’s last DVD, The Case for NASA UFO’s. You can find all this background info at the site NASAUFO.com.

Just because he is an actor, how does that automatically preclude him from being as committed to the subject of UFO research as anyone else out there? Spielberg is a film director, yet he seems to carry a hell of a lot more weight in this arena. Why? Because he has made ET movies? Because Dan can’t be as smart as Speilberg? Where are you coming from?

You know, it takes a hell of a lot of guts to get up on a stage and perform, even moreso when you’re a comedian. And to be a good one, you have to be pretty darn smart. Give the guy a bit more credit will ya? And I’ll be looking forward to your comments when you see the DVD for yourself.

Just to address one concern brought up — yes, I have actually seen the DVD. That is how we review them, after all. :) But all reviews are only intended as a guideline — and even for them to be usable for that, you pretty much have to have read other reviews by the same writer and determined for yourself whether your tastes usually agree (or disagree).

With any DVD, however, the only one who can tell you whether you like it or not, of course… is you.

That’s the way to lose all credibility, criticize material you obviously know nothing about. I gave your web site the benefit of the doubt but now your displaying the characteristics of a horse’s ass! Can’t wait to start deleting your waste of time UFO blog!
