What is a UFO?
Monday May 22, 2006
We may be going back to the basics here, but I think sometimes we need to. I have discussed and will continue to discuss the bad wrap that people get when they report a UFO. But, we must remember that the acronym UFO means exactly what it is an abbreviation for, and nothing more or less. This really is important when one begins to delve into the mass of reports that are made on a daily basis. If an object is seen flying, and the person seeing it does not know what it is, it is a UFO to them, at least on a temporary basis. Now, when the report is analyzed by one in the know, the status of unknown may change. If it is identified then you could say it is a IFO, or identified flying object. Unfortunately, not every case can have a conclusive tag given to it. It is true that the majority of UFO reports are eventually identified as something everyday and explainable. But, there is always that small percentage that falls through the scientific cracks.
UFO: Betwixt and Between? was written by R. Lee, whom I don't know, but do respect some of what is being said in her notes. She gives us a good look at how everyday people view the UFO problem. After pretty much covering my explanation above, we are told that when someone says they saw a UFO, automatically that object is of extraterrestrial origin. Of course, this is not true, and therein lies the problem. Immediately, that person is off their rocker seeing an extraterrestrial spacecraft, because they don't exist, at least that is what mainstream science says. But what they saw was JUST an unknown flying object, and that is all. Only an investigative process can really get to the bottom of what they actually saw. We know about all the most commonly misidentifed objects, like Venus, balloons, stars, airplanes, helicopters, and more, but again, often times these can be easily ruled out. When nothing else fits, you have a UFO. Now, the big question still lingers: Could it be a craft from another world? The answer is a resounding YES! It could be. Is it from another galaxy? Or another dimension? Maybe. And therein lies the UFO mystery, and why it keeps me searching for more and more information.
