A Christmas Star

Monday December 18, 2006
Let me step into a controversial area today. Skeptics claim that the vast majority of night time UFO reports are misidentifications of just stars. While agreeing with this up to a point, I must add that sometimes what is identified as "just" a star might be something much more. I am referring to the Christmas Star. While many Bible scholars believe that God used an already existing heavenly body to guide the wise men to Bethlehem on the night of Jesus' birth, I totally disagree. Why use something ordinary to herald an extraordinary event?

The wise men, and we only assume there were three of them because they brought three gifts, came to Bethlehem to not only honor the Christ Child, but for another very important mission. By the time that King Herod had received word of the birth of a Saviour, almost two years had passed in the life of Jesus. Joseph and Mary, being poor, had no means to travel very far, and no place to hide to escape the deadly decree of the King: which would slay all newborn males two years and under.

The wise men would serve the purpose of bringing gifts that Mary and Joseph probably sold to finance a safe journey to Egypt. The family would live there for two years until the threat had passed. The wise men may have accomplished their mission unknowingly. Was it necessary for God to lead three men to come to see the Baby Jesus? There were literally thousands of Jews in town to pay their taxes. No, these men had means, and there could be no mistake that they served a heavenly purpose. The Christmas Star was created to serve as a guide to the Magi for this one night. This one special night.

Hi, After I realized aliens and UFOs are indeed real sometime in the 90’s - I then realized all the relgious myths could also be true in the early 2000’s with the ancient astronaut theory, and I mean literally. I think it is very possible that the christimas star was in fact the UFO assigned to watch over the birth. I also realized that Mary may really have been a virgin, of course from genetic implantation. Jesus could have been 100% divine or partially divine with Mary’s egg cell.
I was raised Catholic. I am generation x, mtv generation now in my mid-30’s with three children. I used to be agnostic. Now I believe all the religions are true.

In my view religion is human history told through and by different belief systems.

There are many different religions yet many seem to share a common theme and source.

If God did make the world and all those who live upon it, then it is feasible to assume that sages, saviours, visonaries, call them what you like have been placed upon our planet also.

The Adam and Eve story is particularly intriguing. Are humans the result of genetic engineering? Something for discussion at a later date.

Perhaps Jesus and other religious figures are literally given humanity as “guiding stars.”

We certainly need them in todays fast paced 24 hour society. After all, influence and copy cat behaviour are two of the main threads of human learning.

A superior race would certainly want continual forward development(evolution)of an enginered species.

I therefore believe that it is highly probable that something special was marked by the arrival of the Christmas star.

The star could have been Extra Terrestrial.

What better way to mark the arrival of another “special one?”

If the Bible is to be believed, at the time it provoked individuals to flock to its location and the story has continued to hold sway for 2000 years and more.

More credit should be given to sorces from the time of Jesus Christ. We were in essence just as intellectual then as we are now. In fact, we have not moved forwards (in my personal opinion) but rather humanity has moved through time in peaks and troughs.

Take a look at what the ancient cultures around the world were acheiving (like the building of the Pyramids) 4000 years ago or more.

The universe is imense. We know nothing at all!

We should consider all posibilities with an open yet scientific mind.
