Do You Want to Report a UFO?

Monday April 7, 2008
If you will recall in the movie, "Close Encounters," pretty much at the beginning, there is a scene in an airport tower where air traffic controllers are talking to the pilot of a passenger jet who was seeing a UFO. Soon, the object and the plane had a near miss. The controllers asked the pilot, "Do you want to report a UFO?"

The hesitant reply was, "No, we don't want to report one of those."

Of course, the pilot had reported the UFO to the tower hoping that he could get some directions in avoiding the object, but to report one officially, that is a different story.

Why did the pilot not want to report a very close encounter with a UFO? Did they not want to warn other pilots? Weren't they concerned with passenger safety? Yes, I'm sure they were, but something much more powerful was controlling their reluctance to report. It can all be summed up pretty easily-stigma. The term is defined as "an identifying mark or characteristic." A scarlet letter, if you will.

It is no better that walking around with the acronym "UFO" stamped on your forehead. Let's go back and look at Project Bluebook. UFO reports were, according to Dr. J. Allen Hynek, given credibility according to a person's social standing. If a pilot reported a UFO, it might get some attention, but a report by a mechanic, or a bus driver, well... forget it. However, in either case, there was the stigma. Although there has been some improvement in this attitude lately, we still have a long way to go. I assure you that 99% of the reports I receive are from people who do not want to release their name. No one wants to be made fun of, or called a "nut."

Will this stigma every go away? What can we do to get rid of it?

Well it is a shame and it would mean changing the way people think which is doubtful .whenever we hear something we don’t belive we riducle it and make fun of the person who says it.

You’re right Chance… but to me the interesting part is not that people don’t believe, it is why they don’t believe. And, the reason I submit, is not because the thought of life other than ours in the Cosmos is rationally unlikely, but instead because of the pervasive and constant disinformation campaign that has been waged by our government since Roswell. Through the media, and by virtue of lack of much official governmental acknowledgement for a long time, the masses have yet again proven our complacency and assumed the government would have told us if it were true. It is too hard to fathom for most what such disclosure would mean and the many reasons it might be kept so secret. This even in the face of a near constant flow of proof that our government hides important stories from the populace all the time… just read the newly released MLK documents for the latest proof. Still, we put all our faith in our government to take care of us and let us know what we need to know to be safe and continue our productivity for our GDP!
Just my opinion.

The stigma associated with branding oneself a believer is a byproduct of the disinformation program. The reasons for the disinformation agenda are many and varied including: the advantages gained from hoarding secret captured and re-engineered alien technology, preservation of wealth attached and dependant on pre-contact economies and geo-political influences. All the aforementioned is made possible under the guise of national security which specifically precludes release of any knowledge confirming these realities.

Conspiracy theories aside (though I don’t doubt the lengths the government will go to hide something), I think a major part of the problem is the sheer amount of fraud and distrust that abounds in our society today. I wrote about this exact phenomena on my site. Unfortunately, the only end I could see to the vicious cycle of credible witnesses not reporting sightings because of the stigma and the public attaching that stigma to witnesses wholesale because of a dearth of credible witnesses is a massive and undeniable public sighting a-la “Independence Day”.

Is it just me or does it seem UFO sightings are becoming more and more frequent?

(6) John Borowski says:

I would imagine that a UFO’s mass would determine how much it can neutralize the effects of gravity. My supposition is that centuries ago the UFOs would be smaller and less powerful than present sighting of UFOs. Are extremely large UFOs more common currently than they were centuries ago? I believe they have unified all the forces found in the universe. As a result they exploit gravity for locomotion rather than fight against it. We wouldn’t need powerful rockets and engines to lift tons of stuff into orbit if we knew how to control unified forces. Two flashlight batteries would do.

Dear John D,
When information is being presented that sounds incredible it is all too easy to discard it as a “conspiracy theory.” Do not fall victim to their conditioning. Also, you need not engage in an excersise of avoiding self-doubt to establish what lengths governments may traverse to hide something. It’s as simple as considering the Freedom of Information Act which explicitly exempts matters that are specially authorized under criteria established by an Executive order that they [shall] be kept secret in the interest of national defense or foreign policy and matters that are in fact properly classified pursuant to such Executive order. Also exempted is information “related solely to the internal personnel rules and practices of an agency”. There is your answer to the question what lenghts will our government go to hide something. They will legislated its acceptance!

Hynek was ahead of his time. He was pretty brave to change his mind about UFOs and to regard them as a legitimate phenomena. He also has some very interesting philosophy about UFOs and UFO technology that gives me the chills. I think some of these hypotheses could be dead on.

(10) Keaton says:

What does it say about the Constitution that “they would go far enough to kill you?” That statement alone, if you believe it to be true, suggests that the constitution is worthless. There are many that know the truth. Ultimately they can’t hide the truth from eventually coming out; they can only prolong its unveiling.

Will Chance Metz, or one of his cronies, please put together some kind of dictionary or lexicon so we can decipher what it is he is writing about. I notice that he “very” frequently appears on this web-site, and each time, trying to understand his messages is like solving some kind of sectet code. Maybe he just types faster than he thinks.

At the risk of sounding like I wear Reynolds Wrap headgear, I will tell all who care to listen that the government (doesn’t matter which party is in charge) will trample your rights in a heartbeat if it serves their purpose. Believe this - I have seen it firsthand.

Knowledge is power, and those who aspire to high positions in the government are all about power and personal gain. Any information they can keep from the general public is seen as some form of trump card, and it will be protected zealously. Maybe in certain cases the concealment of specific information is indeed a matter of grave national importance, but other bits of information are simply squirrelled away because some in the government just want to keep that edge. Helps them control the masses, ya know…

With regard to professional persons reporting UFO’s, I applaud those who come forth at the risk of their career to report their unvarnished observations. I speak as a licensed pilot (private) and former air traffic controller, and I will tell you that for a pilot to report a UFO is tantamount to admitting that he/she isn’t wrapped real tight. That can get a pilot yanked off of flying status, and even damage their career progression in their particular system. The suits who run the airlines don’t want it noised abroad that their pilots see “flying saucers” - might scare the passengers off, hurting the bottom line.

BTW, this is an excellent thread with some really good commentary!

(16) Frank says:

Its hard to believe at first blush that the government could keep something of this magnitude concealed from the general public for so long. But consider past endeavors, e.g., Project Manhattan– the development of the atom bomb. Yes, it was wartime, but thousands of people had access to information for years and not one word leaked to the general public (weapon design information provided to the Soviets by a key research pyhsicist was another matter.) The Air Force has developed a series of classified recce aircraft (U-2, A11/ YF12A, SR71, F117 stealth fighter and B2 stealth bomber– all of which we now know about, but which were kept secret and flew successfully for years and decades. One can only imagine what is flying (Or running submerged) today, given the fact that the US Navy has been working of nuclear anti-gravity propulsion for decades, the continued string of rumors about the Aurora and its several spin-offs, etc. Might the government be willing to kill to keep these secrets? Consider Secy of State Forrestal’s mysterious and untimely “accidental death” in his “fall” from his hotel window– after he indicated he wanted to publicize information about UFOs. Recall the threats made by US Army reps to various witnesses during the Roswell incident. And many more such stories have since surfaced surrounding subsequent UFO events. And that doesn’t even take into consideration the mystery surrounding the strange appearances of the “men in black” and their intimidation of witnesses of UFO events; nor the threats by supposed military officers in uniform to others in much the same fashion. There is so much more to this subject– underground research facilities that may be shared by aliens, underground UFO bases, etc. ALso fascinating is the occasional release of recollections by elderly dying former military types who finally decide to share their stories kept secret for so many decades to protect their families and loved ones. Might the government take you into custody and hold you without benefit of access to counsel? Ever read about Gitmo? Or the many internment camps already constructed and ready for use in this country? What/who are they for; why do we need them? The US Constitution is a piece of paper of historical significance– unfortunately, it can easily be over-ridden with the simple stroke of a pen to a Presidential Executive Order– never mind Constitutional rights, much less activities conducted under the auspices of “black ops.” I suspect that eventually the lid to the UFO story will finally be lifted. The increase in number of sightings, the larger craft now being reported, and the greater variety of reported activities certainly suggest that we as a public may be experiencing a “softening up” to help prepare us for that very eventuality. The real question is, though, who will finally make that determination? Our government “leaders,” or the aliens who may well be calling the shots from behind the scenes. Time will tell– just hope I’m around to see it, and not from behind barbed wire.

I think it’s the same type of don’t tell atmosphere that police have. If they make a report and say they’ve seen something they could be ridiculed by their peers, and if it goes on their record, may be a factor in their rejection for a position later in their career.

I’ve read online posts here and there about pilots who have reported UFOs. Some of the public have the attitude that they aren’t qualified to be pilots if they see those sort of things. That they wouldn’t want to fly with them in the cockpit. With comments like that, there’s little wonder why police or pilots would want to keep their eyes open and their mouths closed.

Yeah who wants to fly with a crazy pilot? Well I or one wouldn’t mind. The crazest things people say are often times true.

This topic relates mostly about the experiment of philadelphia. Most people in the military blame aliens for misinforming humans about the equation. You see the problem is that aliens have nothing to do with our mistakes. Most of the defaults that have happend in our life time is do to human error. Regarding the philadelphia experiment is a lie, the experiment did existed but no one could have survived. Some how that theory of relativity and aliens relate and puts both against one another. Alien is a specie of different physical appereances none alike humans. Some can absorve the oxigen others can breath the oxigen do to high in sulfur or salt in the air. In some time from now the contact is going to be more casual. We are living in the twenty first century our brain has to adopt to other ideas. We can’t stay in this rock for ever we must move along with the rest of the aliens in a community on space. It’s so beautiful when we all work in a team and never let others down. Maybe the reason they show up now it was do to problems to the planet now. They probably came down to tell the government how to move in order to avoid all kinds of biological problems. Keep in mind that aliens had to be more smart than humans so that makes them better then that. This is my comment regarding aliens. My name is abel Mendoza I do research on psychology on aliens. my email is abelmendoza17@hotmail.com no comments thoughts.
