New Hi-Quality Video of Apollo 11 Mission Available

Thursday July 16, 2009
Thursday, July 16, 2009, is the 40th anniversary of the lift-off of Apollo 11 to the moon. This mission marked the first attempt to send three astronauts to the moon, with two actually walking on the moon's surface.

Just getting under the wire of President John F. Kennedy's commitment that the USA would land a man on the moon by the end of the decade, all the world watched with guarded breath as Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edward "Buzz" Aldrin made moon orbit, and Armstrong and Aldrin took mankind's first historic steps on the moon.

Most of the Apollo mission was committed to tape, but several years ago, it was revealed that the first generation tapes were lost, or misplaced. And only a couple of weeks ago, NASA announced that these high quality recordings had been found.

At that time, NASA promised that by the anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, these tapes would be restored, and made public. They fulfilled this commitment, and you can see and / or download these at NASA's Apollo 11. Be sure to check out some of these, they are much improved. Let us know what you think about them.

I have a hard time believing that something as significant as tapes concerning travel to the moon could ever be lost or misplaced! That kind of flimsy explanation sends up red flags. And why now?

(2) Joey says:

Now they’re saying that the originals were actually degaussed (magnetically erased). Damn liars! If it is true, which it isn’t, someone should really be shot for that. Has NASA forgotten that they are a public entity? IDIOTS!!!

(3) JR says:

No, NASA is not a public entity, they are part of the US Gov’t and under the DoD.

I agree that this never should have happened. I have also heard that the original tapes mays have been tapeed over. Oops. By the way JR while NASA is a part of the government they are not associated or under the DOD. They have many military astronauts, and currently the new head of NASA is a retired military general. I’m glad I saved my newspapers (Boston Globe and others) from this historic moment. Hard to believe that it has been fourty years now.

EVERY astronaut has been and has to be at least a 33rd degree Mason!

(7) Bruce says:

Apollo 8 + 10 both sent men to the moon. 11 was the first to land on the moon.

(8) John says:

Everyone knows we’re being lied to. The lunar landing was probably one of, if not THE most significant event in the history of man. The video documentation of that was lost? They still have the video of JFK being shot. There’s even the video of the assination attempt on Ronald Reagen. People don’t just “lose” important video footage, it was purposely not available, and my guess is so that “certain” parts of it could be removed. If there’s an “ounce” of truth to the “lost” story, then NASA is so incompetent that I can’t even believe the idiots could get a rocket off the ground much less SPACE!

(9) Lisa Nowak says:

Well I know from firsthand experience that there are certain things which are deemed beyond the comprehension of the “unwashed masses!
I have extensive training and I can tell you there are MANY things which cannot be revealed, however, that does not mean that we have not landed on the moon!
Try to remember, this was a LONG time ago, and video was not as ubiquitous as it is today~

(10) Ross says:

Lisa, The thing I never understood is how a starched American flag, as they had to make it so it appeared to be fluttering in an airless enviroment on the moon, would visibly show signs of movement after the guys placed it and were walking away. Or how we can see footprints underneath their craft, when the propulsion of the landing would have blown any loose particles a distance from the craft. If you don’t believe that one, simply put some dirt on a sidewalk and blow on it! And what about the radiation belt that they had to go through or the radiation they were exposed to once on the moon, no atmosphere, no protection.
