Have you ever sent an email or text message to someone and got tired of waiting for a response? Sure you have, but you just have to be patient. Not easy, is it? What if you had to wait for over 40 years for an answer? That is exactly what Earthlings must do with their first mass message sent into deep space.
25,000 messages have been sent by the Tidbinbilla Deep Space Communication Complex outside Canberra, Australia, to Gliese 581d, which is the nearest earth-like planet out of our solar system. 195 countries have partipated in the messages, hopefully to be heard by extraterrestrial beings.
Now, here comes the problem. If you are one of those who sent a message, don't hold your breath for a response. It will take a staggering 20.3 years for the message to reach the planet, and assuming they answer promptly, another 20.3 years for a response to get back to Earth. I guess patience really is a virtue. Are you willing to wait that long? Some of us, present company included, won't even be alive then.

It is worth it……if they are friendly & not looking to conquer & enslave us or wipe us out.
Now as for the timing, it could take less time or longer time depending upon how advanced they are. If they are not as advanced, it will take longer or not at all. If they ate far more advanced than us,then it will take less time to get back to us……. assuming they want to make contact.
Personally, I would be excited to make contact with other planets & thier FRIENDLY people. But of course most of OUR people tend to shoot 1st, then ask questions……so maybe we aren’t ready yet.

I have to agree with with D.Akroyd in spirit here, regardless of any annal tendencies he have. If ET is advanced enough to get here, it would rather stupid on our part to give him our address, if he doesn’t already have it. He would be much more likely as not,be a top predator like ourselves, and being much more advanced than we, the ensuing struggle would be lopsided to say the least I don’t know about the rest of you, but I for one, am just not prepared in any way, to fight an inter-stellar war. So, no. I don’t think it would be either intelligent nor wise to get them “into the mix”, and would question whether anyone making such a suggestion possessed either of those qualities to any great extent.
Sending out a message leaves open a lot of possibilities…for example the message could be intercepted by a craft in space somewhere in between. The message could arrive at the planet and these beings could be so advanced that they could arrive on earth in a matter of seconds. Do we really know what happens once a message leaves earth? The message could hit a wormhole and be sent billions of light years into another Universe or Solar System? I would like to think that there are countless things that could happen to the message, light, time, and space; just what could happen is really quite infinite.
Which is the very reason I think we should exercise a great deal of caution before doing so.

I have a question for you people. Why do so many of you seem to think that extraterrestrials would be a danger to us? Could you not think that they are far more advanced than we are and be civilized way beyond our capacity. I have followed UFOs since the 1950s and have never heard of any aggressive actions taken by them in any encounters with our species on land or in the water or in the air. I have read a lot of reports over the years. My own experience with the two craft that were within a stones throw from me that were years apart was that they never did show any type of aggression. The first one that I seen after I looked up under it responded by gliding out across a field and headed towards Lake Ontario. That was in 1974. So I do not think that we have any thing to fear from them.

yeah it’s worth it for mankind, but us living now will be gone by then. And i bet it takes a whole lot longer than that. 40 years if everything is perfect (life is on that planet and can repond to us). We’re still pretty early on our technology. Most of our industry and technology started 150 years ago. Thre are civilizations out there that have been working with techonology for hundreds of thousands of years-they evolved way before we did. These entities probably are too advanced and wouldn’t even try to communicate with us. We’ll find a techonology someday that is much quicker, probably moving faster than the speed of light. But for the meantime we should try the slow messages.

Unknown and unknowable at this point. If the believer’s hypothesis is correct, that they have been observing us for eons, I’d say not, as they would seem to have a type of linguistic retardation, in as much as there is no record of their ever having communicated with us, in all that time. If they are not so advanced as so many people assume, but are on a par with us, the likelihood is still very low, since there are trillions of wavelengths to select from. The SETI Project has known and been working this problem for years now. Then there is also the possibility that they may have developed a means of communication quite outside of our experience. I have little patience with those who use these methods, either SETI or others. There are probably millions of us who have already had contact, mostly of the unwilling kind. They started on me at four years old. I am now 75. It is not fun but one can survive it with out going nuts. Maybe they treat their lab animals better than we treat ours and practice catch and release but they are not our friends. They are here for their purposes. They want our planet. They will not kill us as they need a handy work force. I don’t think they will use force but try to worm their way to power by becoming our “advisors.” If they could use force they probably would have already done so. They are currently trying to create alien/human hybrids to live on the planet. They seem to be having problems with this and may have to resort to space suits and artificial environments. I think that the government has known this for some time and is fearful of revealing it to the public.

I am certainly not a debunker but many stories from people alleged to have inside information on UFO’s and aliens are simply not credible including yours. On the other hand many others are quite believable. One has to look at cases on an individual basis not knee jerking. I got my knowledge by experience and study. No abductee can know everything there is to know about this phenomenon from personal experience. I studied many sources including, Jacobs, Hopkins and Mack. I have also read several books by abductees.
