NYC Video: Real or Computer Created?

By , About.com GuideSeptember 16, 2012

Follow me on:

Here is a recent video that has caused some controversy. It was allegedly taken over New York City from a tourist helicopter on the 30th of August.

Later, when the videographer slowed down the video, a speeding object was seen in the sky. There are two questions that need to be answered about the video; one is why the video was looked at in slow motion, and secondly, there are complaints that the buildings look like a creation, and not the real thing.

Check it out at UFO Shoots Past Empire State Building - Caught on Video, and add your comments.

That’s funny because I was looking at the video prior to the “UFO” and I thought, “Something doesn’t look right about the skyline.” It actually looked too right, you know? For one thing they are in a helicopter with a hand held video camera and there is absolutely no vibration from either the helicopter itself or the person filming. When something appears to be off it probably is. I vote fake.

in slow motion the object disappears at least twice . Looks fake to me too!

I thought it was very interesting. As far as the video being too steady, I disagree, as I have seen some very steady video from news camera’s where I am from.

I vote for fake. I’ve flown in many helicopters – they are built from thousands of parts all trying to fly in different directions. Even in the best of them they are shaky. A hand-held camera would be vibrating even on a shock mount. The city skyline looked like they shopped the Empire State Building into the background. It’s really tough to believe videos these days. They have to be ironclad to be believed.

Can’t call it either way, but I would have to lean toward it being contrived. Everything is “too good”, if you get my drift.

Nested Grid, I’ve got some rotary wing time, too. You know what they say – if something hasn’t broken on your helicopter, it’s about to!! :)

Most blatantly fake. And not even a good fake, at that.

This UFO must be reversed, shadowy underneath and bright at the top.

The footage that was captured is real. It’s a motion blur brought about by a faster moving object recorded by a camera whose shutter speed was too slow to define the object. The object is most likely a small bird or bug. These artifacts are commonly referred to as “rods” and are well known artifacts to photographers. The blur elongates them resulting in a distinct distortion –a rod like shape — that masks what it really is. To take it one step further, stop the video when they zoom in on it. This is not a huge object far away, but a small object not too far from the camera lens and is an example of “forced perspective.” Relative to the building it appears big, but on close examination it is most likely small and close to the camera.

Interesting clip, as are the questions posed: why slo-mo, etc. The object does appear to go behind the Empire State Building, thus eliminating the possibility of a close-flying insect. That the object seems to appear and then disappear is typical of many sightings. . Its incredible speed is also typical of many sightings, as well. It is for these reasons that quality imagery-both photo and video -are so hard come by. Finally, helicopter shake varies considerably, based on type of helicopter flown. I have flown on several, and have been on some that are very stable. All things considered, the video is worth further study.

Completely fake, doesn’t take much to figure that out.

I vote it’s real! Just my opinion. There are 100′s of sightings around the world so some have to be real, say 5 to 10%. And by the way, earth does not own the Universe.

Looks too pristine. the building have a plastic look about them.. This is a FAKE.

(17) Christopher says:

Something about the buildings didn’t look right, they looked fake, and if they were, then obviously the whole thing is fake, and I’m pretty sure it is fake.

Any UFO footage with a lot of production, e.g. music sound track, movie-like shot, etc. is a fake. It’s just too well done to be real.
