Flying Object Videotaped near Moon

By April 29, 2013

Follow me on:

You probably recall the famous "tether incident." It looks like the object may have shown itself again in a recent Youtube video.

Do you know how many countries have satellites orbiting the moon? Try and find out. I tried a number of sites, and got various answers, anywhere from 2 - 4. In any case, is it possible that the object in this video is nothing more than a lunar satellite? Or, is it?

Well... maybe not. If you look closely at Flying Object Videotaped near Moon, the object does not appear to be orbiting the moon. Could that mean the object is actually between the earth and moon? Add your comments below.

After review of the video, I can say conclusively that this object is not in orbit around anything. It changes direction and velocity noticeably, something that no object which obeys the laws of orbital mechanics does. It appears most likely to be an out-of-focus image of something between the the camcorder and the moon, floating and possibly tumbling at a steady rate.

Another reason that this object could not be a lunar-orbital satellite is the massive difference in albedo between the Moon and a satellite the size of a small car. The lunar albedo, or brightness, is so great that it would wash out the very small reflection from a satellite. Further, for example, the Lunar Reconnaisance Orbiter is in a 3070 km polar orbit, placing it much too close to the lunar limb to be seen as a separate object by any telescope except possibly for Keck.

I feel that the object in the video is most likely a free-floating object within the atmosphere of Earth, and I would further speculate that it is in close proximity to the camcorder lens, as demonstrated by it being severely out of focus.
