Introduction
In July, 1979, NASA had announced that the Skylab satellite would crash. Our witness, David Bier, and his wife were having a "Skylab" party in their backyard. They were having a good time, watching old monster movies, cooking out, and drinking a few beers. They lived in Stow, Ohio.
Our witness left to make a short trip to the store to replenish his party supplies. He drove south on Fishcreek Road, toward Kent. As he drove along, he was listening to rock music. Everything was fine as he got what he needed, and arrived back at his home.
The witness tells us that his trip was only a few miles there, and a few miles back home, making the entire trip, allowing about 10 minutes for the purchases, around 20 minutes or so.
At that time, the eastern side of Fishcreek Road was practically just farm property, between Progress Park Road and Graham Road. He had hunted small game there in the past. There were a few old houses there as frontage property, but nothing else. On the northeast corner of the intersection of Graham Road there was an overgrown orchard.
As Dave had left the store, he heard on the radio about a low-flying UFO that listeners had reported to the station. Witnesses claimed that the UFO was in Cuyahoga Falls, heading in an easterly direction. Graham Road, going west, went directly to Cuyahoga Falls, so as Dave passed the intersection of Graham and Fishcreek, he pulled over next to the abandoned orchard, and got out of the car.
There was not a lot of light there at the time, so Dave felt it was a good place to watch the skies. He stood by his car looking westward. Soon, he spotted the UFO. It was either flying at tree top level, or was humongous.
UFO Blacks out Stars
At first, all that he could see was a section of stars being blacked out. The night was clear and star-filled. He recalls seeing this phenomena first as the object passed over Silver Lake, which was a few miles west of him.
As the object came closer, the size of the blackness grew, both in width and depth. Eventually, Dave would see 5 or 6 lights, probably six, as the form of the object was of a delta-wing shape. He recalls 3 lights on one side of the object, 2 on the other, and 1 on the nose. The uneven distribution of lights contributed to his perception of a boomerang shape.
During Dave's sighting, he was so mesmerized by the UFO, that he had trouble concentrating on the experience itself. Occasionally a car would pass by, as he moved as silently as possible. He could clearly see the lights on the object, and the stars disappearing as it moved by, and reappearing as the object continued its eastward movement.
He felt a total blackness moving over him. He compared the blackness to "black construction paper," a matte blackness.
As Dave stood there glued to the object, it moved a bit north of Kent. He explained that Graham Road goes to north Kent, and the UFO was on the north side of Graham, at a slight angle to the east/northeast of Graham. As the giant, black UFO made its journey, Dave never heard a sound.
He relates that from his vantage point on the ground, the object was blacking out about 90 degrees of sky, with him as the focal point on the ground. From where he stood, the object has passed directly over him. He was able to watch the object make it move toward the east, until the orchard blocked his view.
The Experience
He believes the entire experience was about 5 minutes, but when he arrived home, he wife was angry with him, stating he had been gone for two hours.
He recalled that the object moved slower than the normal speed of traffic, which was about 40 mph on the roads in that area. The next day, there was talk about the sightings, with some conjecture that the UFO was an experimental plane from Wright-Patterson.
The Air Force denied this, and the sightings quickly faded into oblivion. Dave knows from what he saw, and the sightings called into the radio station, that there must have been hundreds of other witnesses to the silent, black object.
A big thanks to Dave for providing the information on his sighting.
