February, 2010 Release

The British MoD has released more UFO-related files, this time a whopping 6,000 pages. As you know, the Ministry has closed their official UFO hotline, but at least they are sticking to their promise of letting the public in on their records.

We are in a position to read and study what is made available to us. However, we have no way of knowing how many reports, or possibly photos and video, have been excluded from the release. No one can convince me that we are getting "all" of the UFO files.

Highlighted Cases

This release is similar to others in that there are a few really compelling accounts. One of those is the sighting of a triangle UFO over the house of former Home Secretary Michael Howard. This was a multiple witness case.

The files, which cover the years 1994 - 2000, also contain the 1999 account of an unidentified flying object tracked by Prestwick Airport. The object was moving at more than 1,000 knots/per/hour.

Another report that received high marks was received from police, who spotted UFOs over the North Sea, close to Lincolnshire. Of course, reports from law enforcement are always highly regarded.

Another reporting class of high esteem are airplane pilots, and they had their say also. There is a report of a British Airways 737, which had a near-miss with a UFO in January 1995. No conclusion was ever published for the incident.

There are around 600 reports received for the years 1995-1997, which involved a series of sightings over Bonnybridge, Scotland. These sightings were reported in pieces to the general public, and often involved "triangle" UFOs.

Some Oddities

These releases usually always include a couple of strange reports, and this year was no exception. The South Wales Police Department reported an incident that occurred on January 27, 1997...

A motorist claimed that his vehicle was enveloped in a "tube of light," which was present for a full five minutes. His radio and mobile phone were disabled during the event, and afterwards his vehicle was covered in debris.

Missing Video?

In my opinion, one of the most important parts of the file release in something that is not there. There are a number of references to video footage taken by Royal Air Force fighters in the 1950s, yet somehow the video footage has been lost or misplaced.

Allegedly, this footage showed strange balls of plasma / light which were dangerously close to aircraft. An investigation by the MoD and meteorological officials came up short in explaining the phenomena.

You can view and / or download the files at British Public Records.
