If you believe the witness statements, you are saying that you believe that alien contact has been made right here on Earth, an astounding testimony. If you do not believe that this has happened, then the witness is perpetuating a lie, and the case has no merit. But, in my opinion, this is a case where the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the one. The truth must be told to the masses, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. If this prompts us to take sides, so be it. We cannot face the possibility of alien contact too soon.
On August 25, 1952, William Squyres, who lived in Frontenac, Kansas was driving to work at 5:30 AM. He was a staff member at Radio Station KOAM, in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He was about to enter a world that he didn't know existed. It would be one that would stay with him the rest of his life. William states that he saw a low-flying object which was temporarily hovering in the sky. He could make out windows very clearly on the more-or-less disc-shaped object. Later, when being questioned on the first sight of the object, Squyres remarked, "My hair rose straight up on the back of my head."
The object, which was spotted about seven miles north of Pittsburg in a heavily wooded area, was described by Squyres as like two turtle shells sitting on top of each other, edge to edge. Along the rim where the two parts met, there was a series of small propellers, six to 12 inches in diameter. They were revolving at a high speed. He estimated that the UFO was about 75 feet long, 45 feet wide and 25 feet high.
The object was rocking back and forth as it hovered near a highway over a nearby field. The UFO was a dull metal color with several rectangular windows. Through the windows was a bluish light which brightened and darkened. He could also see some type of activity going on, but it was difficult to see clearly, as if it was behind an opaque shade. He later stated that he could see figures behind the shades. There was one window, though, which was much clearer. Through this window, Squyres could see what he thought was a human being. "I definitely saw a human being through the window," he said.
By this time, Squyres was totally enthralled with the sight before him. He stopped his car, and exited to get a better look at the strange object, and enigmatic beings. He could now hear a low throbbing sound, coming from the UFO. He walked to within a hundred feet of the object. Suddenly, the object rose up, and was soon out of sight. The sound it made was like a "covey of a hundred quail taking off," Squyres said. He could also see debris and vegetation blown about by the object's quick takeoff.
Whether it was a self-protective mechanism, no one can be sure, but Squyres, although admitting the strange and alien characteristics of the craft, insisted that the beings he saw inside were human, and not "men from Mars." This is an interesting point to investigate, because if the occupants were only human, then the UFO was probably only some experimental military craft.
Later, he returned to the scene with members of KOAM, who verified the spot that the UFO hovered over by the wake of the disturbed vegetation. The United States Air Force later investigated the case also, and they confirmed the details given by Squyres. They stated that the reliability of the witnesses was "good."
