Some of the best known UFO cases often seem difficult to obtain more information on because eyewitnesses are rarely available to the general public.
We are fortunate to have a man who wrote me telling me about his involvement in the classic Belgium UFO Wave of 1989-1990.
As you may know, this is the case that put triangle UFOs to the forefront of UFO research. Be sure to also see my article A Look at the Triangle UFOs, and Recent Triangle Reports.
Eyewitness Report
Our eyewitness tells us:
I'm from Belgium and I saw the triangle in the Belgian wave. I just read that the first sighting was made on November 29, 1989. Well I saw it too, but it's been so long ago, I don't remember the exact day.
But I think it was in '90, and I was driving to work. I always had the night shift at this job. I always left home at around 21.15 because here the night shift begins at 22.00.
I drove from Berbroek (Herk-de-stad) to Diest where I worked at BWD Plastics. This firm doesn't exist anymore under the same name.
When I left home it wasn't dark, it was beginning to get dark, as the sun had gone down. This is why I know I saw the triangle earlier. Here, the sun sets down at 20.45 around the end of August.
So I drove to my work on the N2, which is the road between Hasselt and Diest. I've always liked to look at the sky and believe me, I know what Venus is; Saturn, Jupiter, and Sirius too.
Bright Light Above Horizon
At a certain moment, I saw a bright light above the horizon, I think it must have been about 30 degrees above the horizon. It was in the direction where Diest is, and I was driving in Herk-de-stad at that moment, let's say approximately 5 km from my home.
What I saw was much brighter than Venus, about -6 to -8 magnitude and it intrigued me. So I kept on looking at it while driving and when I arrived in Halen, I don't remember exactly where it was (the right place), but I know it was at a curve and before the E-314 bridge.
I saw that the light wasn't a star or a plane and that it was standing still (hovering) and that it had 3 lights in a triangular shape.
So I stopped the car at the side of the road, it was A red Toyota Celica model '80 and I had to open my roof to see it better, so at that place the sighting angle must have been about 50 to 60 degrees.
Motorists Pass By
The flying object was at my right side at about a 2 o'clock position. So there I was, looking at a triangle hovering above a field with some trees and lots of cars passing me. The strangest thing for me at that moment was that no one else stopped to look like I did.
I kept on looking at that thing for about 5 minutes. I remember that I was trying to evaluate the distance or the size of it, but it was very difficult, because it was dark at that moment, and I could only see the lights and barely the silhouette of that thing.
An American Experimental Craft?
But I didn't see it doing anything special, but hovering without making noise, perhaps just a little roar, but there was too much traffic to hear if it was really silent.
So after approximately 5 minutes, I shut my roof and left to my work, but at that moment I didn't tell anyone. I don't know if what I saw was something extraterrestrial or an American experiment.
Since I didn't see it making any special moves or doing spectacular things, I guess it was an experiment of the American Army for their Black Air Force.
My sister told me long ago that she also saw something like that around that period, but I'll have to ask her again, because I don't remember what she said.
Thank to our reader, Jay, for sending in his report.
