UFO Sighting Reports

Thursday August 28, 2008
Welcome to this week's UFO sighting reports. Here are some that have been sent to me that I think you will find compelling.

California-08-23-08-I was on my patio having a cigarette, when I noticed something in the sky. The "object" was very high up. I see a lot of planes in the area, this "object" was much higher than what I am used to seeing. At first I thought it was a satellite, but realized that it was too bright of a sky to see any satellites (I know you can see them at dusk or at night, but not this time of day).

It moved slowly across the sky. I went inside to get a pair of binoculars, when I came back it took me about 30 seconds to find it again. It looked like it was spherical in shape and a shiny metallic color. I watched it for about 7 to 8 minutes before I lost it against the bright blue sky. source: www.mufon.com

Kentucky-08-10-08-I went outside to just take a look around. My dog was barking. She was facing the field across from my house. I looked around and then noticed the UFO. It was "dancing". It moved left, right, up, down, in circles, and in a looping J-shapes. The lights kept flashing from red to white. It looked like a large star, slightly larger than any star in the sky, larger than Jupiter appears. I was feeling quite happy watching this thing "dance" in the sky.

At one point it seemed the object was beginning to move closer to me. I became a bit frightened. It then retreated to its former distance. I watched it for five minutes. It was located low on the horizon, just above the tree tops behind the field. I then went in the house to see if my daughter was still awake so she could enjoy the sight. She was already in bed. I went back outside and looked to the southeast, the direction where I observed it. It was gone. Then I looked around the night sky and saw it or another similar object higher in the sky in the western sky. It was farther away, or perhaps was a smaller object. I watched it for approximately 5 minutes, and then returned to my studio to paint. A bit later I went outside to look for it again but it was gone. source: www.mufon.com

South Carolina-08-24-08-I was sitting outside on the patio with my girlfriend, the weather was nice with sunny skies and a few wispy clouds. I often watch the skies when I'm outside, hopeful to see something out of the ordinary. I just happened to lean back in my chair and look up. High in the sky at my 1 o'clock position there was what appeared to be a black crescent-shaped object, heading south. At first I didn't think anything of it, I initially assumed it was a large hawk riding and gliding on high air thermals. I continued to watch it out of curiosity. I noticed that the movement was at a steady pace and there was no flapping of wings if it was a bird. I would estimate the height of the object to be about 30 K, the same altitude as a lot of the jetliners that fly over.

I listened for any noise from the object, but didn't hear anything. I tried to get my girlfriend's attention and point out the object. Just then a low flying Cessna type aircraft came flying over and diverted my attention. When I looked again, I couldn't see it anymore. I told her what I saw but was unable to locate it again. As she scanned the sky she saw the same type object at our 10 o'clock position, traveling the same direction and at the same height. We watched this one closely. It was crescent-shaped and black, traveling straight and level with no noise. We both agreed it was not a typical airplane. I was in the Air Force for 10 years, and I have seen many different types of aircraft. This object had no nose or tail section, it kind of reminded me of a flying wing, except the curve of the crescent was slight. 15 minutes later, two jetliners flew over at the same height and we could distinctly hear the faint roar of the engines. source: www.mufon.com

Texas-08-22-08-I was on my back porch, smoking a cigarette. From the south a solid black object was coming under the clouds. It was shaped like three black eggs or footballs bunched together forming a triangle... about as high as a small plane. It flew right over my place and when it passed my roof, I ran inside looking for my camera or binoculars.

About thirty seconds later, I ran to the front of the house and watched the object slowly fly over the Austin downtown area. I noticed other small planes in the same skyline and the sun reflected on them. This object moved like a plane, in a straight line, and seemed to follow the I-35 Highway that runs through town. I watch the skies often, and this was something that honestly looked manmade. I'm just wondering if anyone saw or knows if the city has some unmanned surveillance equipment. source: www.mufon.com

Great Britain-08-24-08-Whilst walking back from a friend's locally, I observed 2 orange lights moving north-eastwards over Oxford. These were followed by 3 other lights (also orange) in a straight line following the first two. The motion was steady and in an exact line. My battery on my phone ran out (typical!) so I could not get any video evidence. This must have been seen by others as the local public houses were just emptying.

There was no sound whatsoever from the objects. As an avid UFO watcher, I have not seen anything like this before (although I have seen a UFO about 15 years ago). It seemed as if the objects were directly over Oxford, as I was observing from Kidlington (about 5 miles away). source: www.mufon.com

That's a wrap for this week, but come back next time for more sighting reports. Until then, keep your eyes on the skies.

I’ve been a skywatcher for years, hoping I someday might be one of the lucky ones to see a UFO. No such luck, and I am beginning to think I know why. I’m a non-smoker. I have noticed from the many comments posted here over the past few years, that the majority of UFO sightings have been made while the sighters… went outside… one night…on their balconies…to… “have a cigarette”. By golly !! Now I’ve got it !! I’ll take up smoking. Maybe then I will be able to post an interesting sighting for you.

Are you kiding, I hope so maybe if you would just go out side when it gets dark look up at the sky. It doesn’t seem to matter what time a person sees them sometimes early sometimes much later. The good thing is we are not all smokers.Me I get tired of watching the tv. My butt hurts and I need the excersise maybe you need to stop watching so much tv and go out and take a break look up and enjoy the sky maybe you will get lucky. I have seen one up close and I have sen two up with the stars moving between the stars what a SHOCK IT WAS AND MY FRIENDS SAW IT ALSO PLUS MY HUSBAND NON OF US SMOKE OR TAKE DRUGS OR DRINK. MAYBE YOU DON’T TAKE THE TIME TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE NIGHT. SORRY IT’S SUCH A WONDERFUL FEELING WE ARE NOT ALONE.

I think maybe our cosmic visitors are just passing by and they put their super starships on autopilot so they can catch a smoke or two between solar systems; so when we humans go outside to smoke it’s just natural to catch those space aliens up there smoking their brains out too!
My guess is the space aliens are smoking super space weed or something very much like it which is illegal stuff on Alpha-Centuri and in most other star systems since a couple of those little grey fellas got weird with it and ran off the shoulder of Orion.
I’ll be outside catching a smoke if you need me.
Thanks!

Hello, the sighting that the person from Kentucky described as “dancing” reminded me of an experience that we had in 2000. In 2000, our oldest daughter was going to Venezuela on a Missions Trip, and we left at 3:00 a.m. in Eastern Kentucky on a trip to Lexington, KY for her to receive some shots for the upcoming trip. On the way, only my wife and I were awake and we were literally buzzed by a self-illuminated rounded light. It was not completely round, but an elongated rounded light that literally played in the sky above us.

Add to this that it could be seen through the open window with no glass in between us, so it was no reflection on the windshield. It was brighter than the full moon in these latitudes. I think that the moon might have been about a quarter or half moon at the time. I tried to talk myself into thinking it was the moon at the time.

So, I considered everything that I could think of from the Moon to a spotlight, but after about 15 minutes on a completely empty mountain road, it became one of the weirdest experiences that we have ever had. It reacted to us. Every time that I would stop the car, this dancing light would zip at ridiculous speeds… many times at 90 degree or sharper angles over the mountain top where it could not be seen. It would appear and start dancing the moment that we would pull back on to the road. We would go no more than 30 mph after a while (I was experimenting), and it would dance all across the horizon in front of us and sometimes get fairly close over top of us, but even if I slowed to stop on the road without pulling over, it would zip at ridiculous speeds over the mountain again to our left. This went on for over 15 minutes and this thing would react to us over and over again the instant I tried to stop to get out. I was curious. Whatever it was, was either reacting to us or it was the wildest series of coincidences we have ever seen. It was funny at first as I tried to come up with an explanation, then it became kind of creepy. I kept thinking that something has a sense of humor or is at least playing with us. The sheer duration of “whatever this was” of 15 minutes got pretty upsetting after a while. Add to this that we had passed 2 cars in the first 5 minutes of pulling on to this road, and did not pass another vehicle the rest of the way to the next town 30 miles away. There was nobody else on the road if it turned out that we needed help.

Note that it danced in unusual patterns when we were traveling slowly in a straight line. Our movement seemed to have no bearing on what it did until we tried to stop. It would make an insane arc from our 9 o’clock to our 2 o’clock. It made no noise. And it would move both in front of and behind the clouds (it was partly cloudy that night) and in the clear spaces.

We have seen a few unusual things before, but had some kind of explanation for them. This one still strikes me as totally bizarre. I can’t explain it. This occurred near the Southeastern border in Kentucky near Tennessee and Virginia.

What a great line Robert. But, what a great story Jim. That one will keep many of us puzzled for a while. (I like that. It’s a good one).

i just watched the same low star looking object here in Kentucky as the person on 08-10-08 sighting report in kentucky. It looks brighter than all the other stars and lower, i watched this for over an hour.It was movering farther away north to Indiana, itlooked as if was would change from bright white to dim red, this was no blimp, plane,no chopper, balloon, i dont really know what it was ,but iseen it tonight 09-15-08,and last month.Last month it was only one at first the split into two,but changed more collors, kinda.Ide like to know what i saw, because ever since the begining of this year ive started stare into the sky often in search of UFO’s,and noticed that if you look for them, you certainly see them.these objects can stand stil for long periods of time then slowly move away.I have picures of my sightins with time and dates and witnesses.I know the gov. has some strange crafts, but the UFO’s im seeing are certainly not the USA’s.no one will, tell me other wise.I think many people see what im seeing and dont report it,If people reported there sightings the gov.would have to tell us something about whats going on,because the people out weigh the gov.If us the people find out our planet is being visited by other life forms, and the gov.failed to warn us,or kept this secret,in my owen opinoin our gov. has failed us.I cant wait till the day comes, when the stars look like there falling from the skys, but really its a lot of these objects ive been seeing, what will the public do,i wonder!

My older sister and I were 5 and 8 years old when we saw the “dancing lights” in Old Harbor Alaska. She came to get me from our room to watch them with her. My mother was sleeping on the couch; we sat up leaning, and looking out the window. There were 5-8 “ufo” that were the size of star, but bigger - we saw red, green, white, and they were all dancing - we said at the time they were angels - but they followed one another dancing around the sky, clouds would cover them when floating by - and then after 5 - 10 minutes they followed each other to cloud - and then were gone. The cloud went away after a while and the sky was normal. The folks in the village call them the “dancing lights” - no it is not the aurora borealis, we see those all the time :)

Wednesday evening i was sitting in my living room. June 3rd 2009. I was watching tv and keep seeing a flash outside. i live over the marsh and its a expansive view with no obstruction.
I thought it was lightening at first. then i realized i kept seeing spheres of Light. Almost white, i thought it was something to do with the marshes, but the tide was up. then I saw one of these sphere shaped (gases???) i don’t know what to call it and it was in close range to the back of my house. it looked like a giant ball of light. it flashed like lightening would then was gone. these flashes when on for at least 2 hours. i got my son, he thought it was maybe the tv or lightening until he witnessed the spherical round flashes too.
I got my camera, went outside on the top deck and waited to get a few pictures. nothing happened. i wish i had gotten the camera out earlier, but i really thought maybe its just some kind of weather phenomenon. about 2 hours later, i saw flashes again, but said, hell, i’m going to bed, no will believe it anyway.
does anyone know what this would be? is it some weather phenomenon? or some marsh gases??? the air force perhaps?
it was one of the oddest things i’ve ever seen in the sky. thanks for any feed back.
