I saw an article on the Net that you might find interesting. We are always discussing just what the alien agenda might be should they make themselves known to the world on a wide scale. Many of the subjects talked about are our science, medicine, recent technological breakthroughs, our military propensities, and possibly even our politics.
I admit I was surprised when I read that a number of scientists have brought forth the idea that maybe the aliens might be more interested in our art and music. Assuming that they are more highly advanced than we are, they would already have a good knowledge of the subjects previously mentioned.
What do you think? Would they go gaga over the Mona Lisa? Would they attend a Bruce Springsteen concert? It sounds silly, but I believe it is something to think about.

I’m certain “they” would appreciate our music and art! With all the violence and killing we perpetrate; our music and art is quite beautiful! It’s as a part of us as the violence. I ponder why “they” haven’t contacted us publicly though…until I realize if they landed on the White House lawn, we’d fire missles at them for violating our air space. We are not ready for them. We need to evolve many years. Although I think our need for power, greed, and violence, will always in our DNA. Just look at the government!
I agree with Snake; We do have to evolve. The people who govern our world, unfortunatly, will be the last to do so. They crave power and greed is in their blood. Religion is a BIG factor in world peace as well. We need to do away with religion. For example; If you look at history most wars were started due to religion, even with our troops in the middle east right now. Google it. In the 50’s Israel was attacked by 5 coutries because of their religious beleifes. Israel won and confiscated land. 10 year later those same 5 countries attached again. Isreal won again and confiscated more land. With in that land there was oil wells. The American government offered Isreal protection in exchange for oil. ….. and it escalted to what we have today. Enough of my ranting.
Art is art. There are some you love and some you hate. It wouldn’t be any different for them I’m sure.
I don’t think music would be such a good idea! Just look what happened to the Martians in “Mars Attacks” when Country Western was played around them!? No, seriously, any extraterrestrial would probably be evolved beyond that quaint emotion, though it may arouse their curiosity?

Like the article said, music is math and math is universal so maybe aliens would like some of our music. Art is a lot more subjective so who knows what they’d think. It might be like it is for us. We all have some music and art we love and some we hate. Could be the same for aliens.
I would like to add to the comments that dakroyd has submitted. Around 1948 our music took a change for the worse, evolving into the garbage we hear to-day…and this is what keeps these aliens from landing here. As long as our music remains in the style it is currently, we will be safe from any alien invasions. Penny P.

I think that UFOs and Aliens could be demonic. Ever seen the movie “Unidentified?” It was produced by Cloud Nine Pictures. If you have not, then you should. It gives folks something to think about. For one thing, in the movie, various people said that they could smell sulphur. And what is hell mainly consist of? Sulpher of course.

I think that in order to appreciate our music and art, any aliens would have to have a psychological makeup similar to ours. They may only perceive such things in a clinical manner, as vocalizations and externalizations of our primitive thought processes. Or they may not recognize these things as having any significance at all, simply considering them to be just another aspect of our species’ particular behavior.
I recall a sci-fi story from years ago wherein an explorer from Earth landed on Mars to discover the remains of a vanished civilization. In the process of exploring the buildings, he came across devices that sprayed a stinging, acidic liquid, and he discovered devices that produced a horrible, ear-splitting skirling noise. He also found what seemed to have been some foodstuffs, but which tasted horrible (not a very prudent explorer, was he??).
If memory serves me, the explorer fell asleep, and when he awoke he heard the most beautiful music he had ever heard. He found luscious food, which he ate with relish, and refreshing, fragrant showers to clean himself. He also discovered that he had become a reptilian creature with a long, crocodilian snout… he had become a Martian.
The point I’m making is that the aliens may be similar to our imaginary explorer in that they don’t recognize our music and art as being such because their thought processes are not like ours.
Very interesting point Sam B. I guess I would have to classify myself with the “crocodilic” Martians if I hoped to enjoy contemporary earth created music. Seems a high price to pay, but would be well worth it to hear nice/good music again. Penny.
…as someone who has just seen the movie ~The Forth Kind~ and been frightened to death by the real footage,
i doubt very much weather the aliens depicted in the movie are here for our music , my feelings are that they see us humans as some kind of farm animals to be harvested at will !!
..but for what, is the big question.
I personally believe that Aliens only see us Humans as species that they can experiment on. They come here to check out our atmosphere and the resources on planet Earth…besides us. They also check out the weapons we have accumulated over the hundreds of years…as many have been seen near nuclear sites and where ballistic missiles are kept. Maybe they think that we will blast ourselves and the Earth from existence. All these things are probable as Extraterrestrials are of superior Intelligence.
My belief is that Aliens would be a wide bunch o folk similar to the wide bunch of folk on Earth. Therefore some would have very intense interest in most things including Music and Art of other Sentient Intelligence’s. To say Aliens would all be smarter than us would be definately incorrect.
Humanities knowledge of science, medicine etc. would not be interesting to a much more advanced civilization – that’s quite logical. Imagine visiting people from the Stone Age asking them for advice on curing cancer. On the other hand, ART is timeless.. It makes a lot of sense to me that art would be the primary interest of a way more advanced civilization visiting us. Think big time spans, think humbly about humanities capabilities. Art is timeless though, whatever the state of technological and scientific advancement is.
